Film Study – Film Making Courses

If you are just starting out in the world of film making and looking to study more about it then you are probably overwhelmed by the amount of information and conflicting advice on where, and how, to get started. If you are serious about this topic then get yourself prepared for a tough (but exciting) ride because there is a lot to learn.

Having said that, filmmaking is quite a passionate art form so studying it won’t be a problem. There are countless things you need to know about this topic and if you are thinking of signing up to a course then it is going to be in your best interest to learn as much as you can about filmmaking before you start the course. Or at least to learn as much in your own time as you do in the course itself. This is good advice for learning any subject, it keeps you from getting overwhelmed while trying to catch up with the course work.

Writing good movies isn’t just about getting creative with a story. Although the plot is possibly the most important part of the film, it does however need to tie in with all the other elements of general filmmaking. Things like casting, acting, screenwriting, lighting, setting the scene, understanding editing techniques, what can and can’t be done with it – all tie together in such an important way that the technical sides of filmmaking can affect, to some extent, the way the story is written or the script is laid out.

Of course, now days almost everything is done with CGI which is complicated to say the least, but, even though you don’t need to be involved with the inner details or the technicalities, you do still need to understand the basics of all these things.

Preparing yourself for these things before taking a filmmaking course will set you ahead of your game.

There are countless books and guides available for self study on making movies. One that I particularly like is No Budget Film Making because it covers the essential things you need to know but more importantly, it teaches you all you need to know about making a film with little or know money. Getting stuck in straight away with practical experience is undoubtedly the best, and quickest way, to learn anything. You can check out my quick review of it out – No Budget Film Making Review.

In the meantime, why not sign up to my newsletter for an eleven part mini course about filmmaking and I’ll immediately send you my free report “Top Expert Filmmaking Secrets”.
